Bishops drop women's tennis opener to Spelman, 8-1

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team opened its 2008 schedule at home on Sunday, falling to Spelman College by an 8-1 score at the NCWC Tennis Complex. Freshman Jaime Galasso earned the Battling Bishops' lone point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at #1 singles over Spelman's Veronica Smith.

Spelman took a quick 3-0 match lead with a sweep in doubles action. Galasso and teammate Ashley Ball fell at the #1 slot by an 8-1 score.  Spelman recorded 8-0 shutouts at #2 and #3.

Ball went on to fall 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles, while Spelman recorded 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at #3 through #6.

Now 0-1, Wesleyan returns to action on Monday as both the men's and women's teams travel to Chowan University. Match time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Murfreesboro.
