Wesleyan tennis swept at
Chowan by 6-3 scores

Wesleyan's tennis squads
were in action on Monday
at Chowan University,
both falling by 6-3
scores to the Hawks. The
match served as the
season opener for the
Bishop men, while the
women dropped to 0-2 on
the young season.
Highlights of the match
included #1 singles and
doubles wins for
freshmen Antti Saari and
Jaime Galasso.
Saari and teammate
Brandon Coleman were 8-5
winners at #1 doubles
over Chowan's Darick
Gilman and Adam
Moneypenney. Saari went
on to defeat Gilman 6-2,
7-5 in singles play.
Wesleyan's final point
on the men's side came
at the hands of
sophomore Matt Smith.
Smith was a singles
winner at the fourth
slot with a 7-5, 6-1 win
over the Hawks' Jonathan
Walker.
In women's singles
action, Galasso won her
second straight match
with a two-set sweep of
Mary Tolson at the top
slot (6-2, 6-2). Junior
Ashley Ball was also a
singles winner at the #2
position with a 6-3, 6-3
victory over Rachael
Johnson.
Galasso and Ball teamed
up in doubles play to
down Tolson and Johnson
by an 8-2 score.
All of Chowan's points
came in straght-set
victories.
The Bishop men return to
action tomorrow when
they travel to North
Carolina Central for a
2:30 p.m. match in
Durham. Wesleyan's women
take a break until
Friday when Hollins
University visits the
NCWC Tennis Complex for
a 3:00 p.m. match.
