North Carolina Wesleyan Colleges Internship and Career Services Program (ICSP) complements the academic program of the College. The ICSP at Wesleyan assists our students professional development and serves as a resource to students, faculty, and the business community. By emphasizing hands-on learning as an important tool for both full time employment and in developing a career path, the ICSP helps students realize their career goals. The ICSP offers a variety of services that allows students to assess their skills and abilities, make the major declaration, and explore the world of work. Through our resource library students are able to research possible majors, minors, and careers. To prepare our students for the world of work, the ICSP offers the Career Development Workshop as a required component of the internship for traditional day students. The workshop includes resume and cover letter writing, the value of networking, interviewing skills, appropriate business attire, how to deal with racial discrimination and sexual harassment, and social etiquette. The relevance of practical experience will become evident as students begin to explore their career goals through the Internship Program. Internships can be those required in the major program or can be experiences selected by the student to provide hands-on experience to complement their classroom knowledge. This experience also gives them an opportunity to gain an understanding of the professional and corporate culture. Successful internships can provide students with excellent recommendations as they begin to look for employment. Internships often lead to full time employment after graduation. The ICSP maintains an on-line listing of jobs and internships. These listings include local full and part-time, seasonal, and internship opportunities. Updated daily, the list can be accessed by all students and alumni and sorted by major and category. The most recent student and alumni service implemented by the ICSP is NACELink. This service is provided free of charge and includes job and internship listings, resume posting, and applying to jobs on-line.
