WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
8:42 P.M. EST

Carlstad Crusaders 63
Stu Northside Bulls 28

Remembering how bad we beat the Bulls the last time we played them was kind of a good and bad thing...  Bad because players remember scores and tend to overlook teams...  Good because we should try to match that performance.  We were pretty confident in what we should be able to do against them, but our head coach was worried about the guy’s enthusiasm coming into the game.

We loss the coin toss and Stu took the ball first.  They had a new QB who was a run/pass option, and he led them down the field on a long opening drive score to start the game.  We got a good return from Christen Forsman, who 6 plays later rumbled into the end zone from 7 yards out to tie the score after the extra point.  Our defense held them the next drive as Jez got involved with two crushing hits on their QB and a wide receiver.  He then had a good return on the punt as he broke 2 tackles and sprinted down the right side until he was forced out at their 30-yardline.  We scored a play later off of a play action to Viktor Jonsson who ran a post route and got behind the safety.  The “D” held them on the next possession also, and Jez returned the punt for 12 yards as time expired in the 1st quarter.

After being penalized for unnecessary roughness a couple of plays into the drive that brought back a touchdown, 2 plays later Forsman added 6 more on the board.  Stu's QB led their offense down the field, moving the ball with his arm and feet before completing 2 slant routes for a touchdown and 2pt conversion.   We stalled on our next possession, however our “D” got it right back as Viktor intercepted a pass and returned it deep into their territory.   In 3 plays, CF Monclair walked in for the score.   Our defense got us one more chance to score before the half was over, but it came at a heavy price.  Jez leaped in the air as he beat the receiver to the ball, but while returning it, he was pulled down from behind and the tackler’s weight came down on his right ankle.  He lay on the ground in pain and had to be helped off the field, but we put his efforts to good use as a QB sweep around the left end scored with only seconds to spare.

We received the ball to start the half and Stu came out in a different defense, loading up the box and playing man across the board.  During halftime I promised the o-line the chance for some smash-mouth football and stuck with it as we pounded the rock down the field play after play until Monclair broke lose for a 20 yarder.    Stu responded, but so did we on the next drive with Monclair scoring again.  We moved the ball through the air and ground on the next possession as I used the time to run new plays that were just recently installed.  The guys responded and executed them well and we found the promise land again.  It seemed like the Bulls had found a rhythm as they moved the ball efficiently the next drive and scored on a fade route, however we stopped the 2pt conversion attempt.  We got the ball and challenged ourselves to score again on the ground as we did from 35 yards out off of a busted play from a high snap that turned into a QB lead through the middle with under a minute to play.

The story of the day was the career day in touchdowns by the young CF Monclair as he scored 4 TDs and had over a hundred yards on the ground.  Also of note, our o-line did not give up any sacks.  Although there were a lot of positives, a negative was the injury to Jez’s ankle as it turned out to be problems with ligaments and he was placed in a hard cast.  He is said to miss the rest of the season, which is a huge loss and disappointment to the team.  However we travel to the Goteborg Pride next weekend in the city of Goteborg. We'll look forward to that!
