Coming into the week,
facing the Tyreso Royal Crown for the second
time, we had a lot of things to prove. The
first time we played it was both teams’ first
game, and I had only been and the country 4 days
and been able to practice with the team 3
times. Our defense shut them out in that game
and wanted to prove it wasn’t it a fluke, but we
only managed to score 20 points because we
stopped ourselves with penalties and mistakes.
Offensively, we had 15 penalties and found
ourselves in 3rd and more than 20 on more than 2
occasions. Since then, both of our teams have
improved... we averaged just under 40 points a
game and the most they have allowed was 35.
This also would be our offensive coordinator's
last game with the team (due to prior
engagements), leaving me to fill the position.
So I also had something personal to prove as the
transition would be starting with this game, and
he would be on the sideline only as a
consultant.
To start the game our
offense got the ball first and immediately went
to work, scoring in 6 plays. The touchdown came
on a 10 yard run from our back Marcus Segar.
Our defense got us the ball back and we put
another one on the board in 5 plays as I pounded
it in behind a wall of blockers. The defense
held them with tackles at the line of scrimmage
and batted down balls to force a 3 and out. We
took advantage putting together another 6 play
drive ending on a fade route catch by “The Vet”
Kalle Flogman. The Royal Crown offense was
stonewalled again and forced to a second
consecutive 3 and out. A penalty on the punt
gave our offense great field position, and 4
plays later we were celebrating in the end-zone
off the result of a 23 yard scramble. We got
the ball back with pretty good field position
again, but due to a bad snap, we shot ourselves
in the foot but managed to convert the 1st
down. However, the drive was stopped at the 5,
so we settled for a field goal that our kicker
nailed to keep him at 100% on the season. Our
next drive didn’t go anywhere as we suffered our
first 3 and out of the game, leaving the score
30-0 going into the half.
We kicked off to start
the half and their offense came out with a
different attack against our D, throwing short
quick passes and it seemed effective. However,
our D would bend but not break as they forced a
punt to get us the ball. We capitalized in 9
plays pounding it on the ground all but one play
until our 2nd back Forsman took it in. They
continued with their attack, but it was halted
again by a spectacular interception by our
strong safety Kalle Gronquist.
Unfortunately, we punted our next 2 possessions,
but the following two drives were much like
those of 1st of the half... we
pounded it away using a lot of our younger
o-linemen. The latter one set a career mark for
one of our players as it was his first career
touchdown ever.
The final was 50-0, which was the most points
anyone has scored against that defense, and
their offense has not scored a point in 8
quarters against our “D”. Once again we had two
100 yard rushers, Segar and myself, and scored
more than 44 points at home to bring our average
to 55 per home game. We also go into the summer
break on a good note. We don’t step on the
field again until August due to the break, when
we return on the road against the Limhamn
Griffins... |
