Matt Wheeler begins his sixth season with the Blue & Gold coaching staff and serves as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach. Having been with the program since its inception, Wheeler is quickly making a name for himself as one of the nation’s premier offensive coordinators. The past three seasons, in fact, the Bishops have outscored their opponents 1,064 to 676 and have led nearly every offensive category in the USA South.

Prior to Wesleyan, Wheeler enjoyed a three-year stint at St. Cloud State University, a Division II school in St. Cloud, MN, where he helped SCSU capture its 2002 conference championship.

Wheeler turned in a stellar collegiate playing career as a three-year starter at quarterback for Wartburg College. In 1998, he was the third-rated passer in the nation, while as a senior, Wheeler led Wartburg to an undefeated regular season, a conference championship, and an NCAA Division III playoff appearance. A two-time All-Conference selection, he was named Conference Player of the Year that same season and was selected to play in the 1999 Aztec Bowl.

In addition to his coaching duties, Wheeler also serves as Video Coordinator for the Department of Athletics. He and his wife, Emily, reside in Rocky Mount with their son, Elijah.

Issac Mooring enters his fourth season with the North Carolina Wesleyan football program as coach of the offensive line. A graduate of nearby Tarboro High School, he joined the Blue & Gold coaching staff after a solid collegiate career at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a four-year letterwinner with the Tar Heels, Mooring saw time on special teams as a freshman and worked his way into a starting role at defensive tackle during his senior season. He graduated from UNC in 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in Communications.

In addition to his coaching duties, Mooring also serves as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Department of Athletics. He and his wife, Quanza, reside in Tarboro with their three children.

Nick Goins begins his second season with the NCWC coaching staff and serves as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. He joins the Blue & Gold staff after two-year stints as linebackers coach at perennial powerhouse Wesley College, where he led the Wolverines to a DIII National Semifinal appearance, and Franklin College.

Goins turned in a stellar collegiate career at Hanover College before accepting his first coaching job as an assistant with his alma mater. As a three-year letterwinner, Goins garnered All-Conference honors at linebacker, while leading the Panthers to a 37-7 record . As a coach, he helped Hanover to a 23-9 record, two NCAA Playoff appearances, and two Conference Championships. Goins graduated from Hanover in 2001 with a degree in Spanish.

In addition to his coaching duties, Goins also serves as Compliance Director for the Department of Athletics. He and his wife, Brooke, reside in Rocky Mount.

Jake Bowman begins his Second season with the North Carolina Wesleyan coaching staff and serves as the Battling Bishops’ wide receivers coach. Prior to coming to Rocky Mount, Bowman enjoyed a one-year stint as a student assistant coach with his alma mater, Wittenberg University, where he also lettered for four seasons at tight end. He led his 2006 Tigers to the NCAC Championship.

With the most wins in NCAA Division III history, the Tigers managed an 8-2 record in Bowman’s lone season on staff. He graduated from Wittenberg in May of 2008 with a degree in Geography before deciding to remain on the sidelines as part of Wesleyan’s staff.

Originally from Portsmouth, OH, Bowman also assists with NCWC's Strength & Conditioning efforts.

Bo Brown joins his alma mater as an assistant coach for a second season after completing his collegiate playing career with the Battling Bishops in 2007. A two-time USA South All-Conference performer and four-year starter at linebacker, Brown completed his career ranked third among Bishop players in tackles-for-loss with 22.5 total.

A member of Wesleyan's first senior class, Brown played an instrumental role in the young's program success.  The Rocky Mount native and Northern Nash product helped lead the Bishops to a 23-17 overall record and 18-9 conference mark over four seasons.  He also helped lead Wesleyan to its first USA South Championship and NCAA Playoff appearance in 2007. Now having made the transition to the sidelines, Brown continues to bring the Battling Bishops success as coach of the defensive line.

In addition to his coaching duties, Brown also assists with Strength & Conditioning. He and his wife, Brittany, reside in Rocky Mount.

Greg Harbaugh begins his first season with the Battling Bishop football program and will serve as running backs coach.  Prior to joining the Wesleyan coaching staff, the Raleigh native enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at USA South foe Averett University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in Sports Management this past spring.

While suiting up for the Cougars, Harbaugh saw time on both sides of the ball during his freshman and sophomore campaigns, recording 11 tackles defensively and passing for three touchdowns offensively. After being sidelined by an injury as a junior, he enjoyed a solid senior season last fall, averaging over 13 yards per catch at the wide receiver slot.

Marty Pittman enters his first season with the North Carolina Wesleyan football program.  No stranger to the Rocky Mount area, he joins the Battling Bishops after serving several seasons as an assistant coach with Southwest Edgecombe High School. 

Pittman will serve as assistant linebackers coach.

Matt Taylor begins his first season as a member of the North Carolina Wesleyan football coaching staff.  He will assist the Battling Bishops on offense by coaching the tight ends.

Taylor and his wife, Olivia, reside in the Rocky Mount area and have one son, Noah.

Russell Rouse enters his first season as a student assistant coach with the North Carolina Wesleyan football program.  A four-year letterwinner for the Battling Bishops on the defensive line, he makes the transition to the sideline in 2008 as assistant secondary coach.

Rouse is a native of Kinston, NC and helped lead the Bishops to a 23-17 overall record and 20-8 conference mark over his four seasons of play.  He also helped lead Wesleyan to its first USA South title.

In addition to his coaching duties, he will continue working toward his bachelor's degree in Education.
