Arrington grabs DIII News Player of the Month recognition

Rocky Mount, NC - Head men’s basketball coach John Thompson and his Battling Bishops are pleased to announce that freshman Jarmel Arrington (pictured left) has received an Honorable Mention as the DIII News Player of the Month for January.

The talented shooting guard averaged 24.4 points per game in eight contests during the month.  A local product of Northern Nash High School, he set a new Wesleyan single-game record with 11 three-pointers back on January 4th at Mary Washington, while his 39 points in that same game was the third-highest total in program history.

Arrington shot an impressive 46.4 percent from the floor (65-140), including 43.8 percent from behind the arc (39-89).  Additionally, he knocked down 26 of 28 free throws for 92.9 percent, pulled down 24 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, and collected eight steals.

His performances have left Arrington among elite company as he was narrowly beaten out by Tyler Rhoten of Trinity College (CT).  The senior became Trinity’s all-time leading scorer and the first player to reach the 2,000-point milestone in his career in picking up Player of the Month honors.
