Wesleyan men cruise to victory over PSU-Berks, 90-62

Stevenson, MD - Junior Buddy Williams (pictured)scored a season-high 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in leading his North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball team to a 90-62 victory over PSU-Berks on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the 10th annual Legg Mason Winter Classic hosted by Villa Julie College.  The Bishops, who dropped a close 74-70 contest to the University of Dallas on Saturday, shot over 50 percent from the floor in the second half to run away with Sunday's victory.  Wesleyan is now 6-5 overall.

Williams scored 14 of his 19 points in the first half on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor.  The Bishops took a 40-27 lead into the break.

Wesleyan broke the game open midway through the final period and led by as many as 33 on one occasion.  Head coach John Thompson was able to go to his bench early and often as 13 different Bishops made their way into the scoring column.

Seniors Lenny Hall and Jarvis Cobb complimented Williams' play with 13 points apiece.  Point guard Trey Drake dished out a season-high 10 assists, while sophomore Lamont Stokes came off the bench to score eight points and grab four boards.

For his efforts, Williams was named to the All-Tournament team.

In Saturday's first round game, Wesleyan managed a slim 35-32 lead over Dallas at intermission.  A back-and-forth contest for most of the second half, Drake gave the Bishops their final lead at 67-66 with 3:36 remaining.  Unfortunately for NCWC, Dallas closed the game with a 8-3 run for the 74-70 final.

Hall and Drake paced Wesleyan with 29 and 19 points, respectively.  The difference in the game came on the boards where Dallas out-rebounded the Bishops 36-26 on the night.

The Bishops will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Randolph College.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Lynchburg, VA.
