Fredericksburg, VA - Sophomore center Brandon Altmann scored 21
points and pulled down 12 rebounds to pace the
University of
Mary Washington men's basketball team
to a 91-83 win over visiting
North Carolina
Wesleyan
College on Wednesday night at Goolrick
Gymnasium. The Eagles move to 13-6 overall with the win, while the Bishops drop
to 9-10 on the season.
The two squads traded
leads back and forth through the first eight minutes of
play. UMW assumed the lead at 22-20 on an Eric Rolander
lay-up with 12:03 to go. A Jon Pierce three pointer spread
the lead to five, and the Eagles would take a 49-37
advantage into the break.
UMW went cold from the
floor in the second half at 36.7 percent but limited the
Bishops to just 40 percent accuracy. Although Wesleyan got
as close as two points in the final period, they were unable
to force a tie as the Eagles held on for the eight-point
victory.
In addition to Altmann’s
performance, UMW also got 20 points from Matt Hale and 17
points and 10 rebounds from Justin Baker.
Wesleyan was led by Trey
Drake's 23 points, while Adam Coleman chipped in 20 points
and 12 rebounds. Lenny Hall and Jarvis Cobb added 17 and 12
points, respectively.
The Bishops return to USA
South action on Saturday when they host
Shenandoah
University. Tip-off is slated for 4:00
p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
