Wesleyan men drop home contest to Greensboro, 73-68

Rocky Mount, NC - Greensboro College overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to down the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan by a 73-68 score on Saturday in Everett Gymnasium. Greensboro (11-12, 5-5) took the lead for good on a pair of Adam Nicholson free throws with 2:12 remaining en route to the Pride's 11th win of the season. With the loss, the Bishops drop to 9-13 overall, 2-7 in USA South action.

Wesleyan held its biggest advantage of the game with 2:44 left in the first half.  It was a three-pointer by senior Jarvis Cobb that put the Bishops on top 36-21 at that point, and NCWC would take a 39-26 lead into the break.

The first 10 minutes of the second period were back-and-forth with the Pride finally making a move at the 11:43 mark.  Down nine, a lay-up by Theophile Tamini kicked off a 15-1 run by Greensboro that saw the Bishops go 0-for-6 from the floor.

A jumper by sophomore Lamont Stokes at the 6:17 mark broke Wesleyan's field goal drought, and a Trey Drake three-pointer with 2:26 remaining gave the Bishops back the lead, 64-63.  After trading baskets, the stage was set for Nicholson's heroics from the charity stripe.  The Pride went on to out-score NCWC 10-4 the rest of the way.

Nicholson led all scorers with 30 points, while Josh Brown and Jason Sharp each turned in double-doubles for Greensboro.  Lenny Hall paced Wesleyan with 20 points.  Stokes and Adam Coleman each finished with 10, and Coleman completed the double-double with 10 rebounds.

Wesleyan returns to action on Monday night when Methodist University visits Rocky Mount. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
