Bishops' Kirsch tabbed Division III Men's Soccer All-American

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team is pleased to announce that freshman Marco Kirsch of Celle, Germany has been tabbed a Division III All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and D3Kicks.com.  Kirsch (pictured), a First Team All-Region and All-Conference selection in 2007, becomes the sixth Bishop in history to garner All-American accolades and the first since 1988.  He was one of five Bishops to earn All-South honors and became eligible for All-American status as a First Team selection.

Kirsch put together a stellar year that saw him net 15 goals, including six gamewinners, en route to USA South Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-American accolades.  He finished the season with the third most points in NCWC season history with 44, while his 14 assists placed him second among season leaders.  For his efforts, he was also named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's College Division All-State team.

He was joined on the NSCAA and D3Kicks.com All-South First Team by senior defender Jason Bottani.  Bottani hails from Pompton Lakes, NJ and anchored the Battling Bishop defense for the fourth straight season.  A four-time All-Conference selection, Bottani was also named to the NCCSIA All-State squad.

Rounding out Wesleyan's NSCAA All-South picks were seniors Alimamy Kargbo of Woodbridge, VA and Danny Jones of Baltimore, MD.  A forward, Kargbo was tabbed a Second Team selection after tallying 12 goals and six assists as the Bishops' third leading scorer.  Jones was a Third Team honoree in the midfield with 11 goals and three assists.

Jones and sophomore forward Kevin Lue were also Third Team All-South selections by D3Kicks.com.  An All-USA South performer, Lue tallied 14 goals and six assists for 34 points this season.

The five helped head coach Jason Kilby turn in the best season record in NCWC men's soccer history at 18-2.  Ranked #2 nationally for much of the season, the Bishops turned in their second straight undefeated regular season and third USA South crown in the past four years.

Congratulations to all on a job well done!
