Wesleyan tennis wraps up
stellar season in NCAA
Quarterfinals

Oberlin, OH
-
The men's tennis team of
North Carolina Wesleyan
College saw its stellar
2010 season come to an
end on Tuesday afternoon
as the Battling Bishops
fell to top-ranked
Middlebury by a 5-0
score in NCAA Tournament
quarterfinal action. The
loss was just the second
of the season for the
11th-ranked Bishops, who
set a new program record
for wins this spring
with 18. Head Coach
Dominic Modise's squad
has now wrapped up the
best season in program
history with an 18-2
overall record,
including two victories
over top-10 teams,
back-to-back USA South
Regular Season and
Tournament
Championships, and the
program's first-ever
top-10 national ranking,
Regional Championship
and NCAA Elite 8
appearance.
Top-ranked Middlebury
(20-2) was just too much
for Wesleyan on Tuesday
as the Panthers raced
out to a 3-0 lead with
8-3, 8-3 and 8-5
victories in doubles
action. Middlebury
proceeded to take #5 and
#6 singles in straight
sets to secure a 5-0
advantage, which ended
the match. The
victory was the 17th
straight for the
Panthers and snapped a
12-match winning streak
for the Bishops.
Despite the loss,
however, Modise could
not be more proud of his
guys for their efforts
this season. The
3rd-year head coach can
look forward to a
promising 2010-11 slate
as Wesleyan's
quarterfinal line-up
featured four freshmen
and four sophomores that
will only improve with
this season's postseason
experience.
Congratulations to our
Battling Bishops on all
of their accomplishments
this season!
