Five Bishops garner USA South Athlete of the Week accolades

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that five Battling Bishop athletes have earned USA South Athlete of the Week accolades in their respective sports. Teron Bush and James Wallace of football were tabbed Offensive Player and Defensive Rookie of Week, while Kelly George of volleyball was named Defensive Player of the Week. In men's tennis, Wesleyan swept two awards as Alexey Rumyantsev and Erkut Cakmak garnered Player and Rookie of the Week honors. more >

Bishops wrap up fall season with five championship wins at MU

Fayetteville, NC - The Battling Bishop men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season in style this past weekend, earning championship wins all in five flights they competed in at the Methodist Fall invitational. Sophomore Alexey Rumyantsev (pictured) led the way with a 4-0 singles mark in the "A" draw to secure Wesleyan's first title. Other champions in their respective flights were Marcelo Prata
(B singles), Erkut Cakmak (C singles), Anton Filinov & Clayton Sonn
(A doubles), and Ilpo Kautonen & Evgeniy Bukatin (B doubles). more >

Tingle and Saari earn USA South Player of the Week honors

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that sophomore Mackenzie Tingle of volleyball and junior Antti Saari of men's tennis have earned USA South Player of the Week honors in their respective sports. Tingle led her Bishops to a 2-1 record this past week, while Saari went 4-1 in singles play at the ITA Regional Tournament. This is the first award of the season for both. more >

Saari paces Bishop men's tennis at ITA Regional Tournament

Sewanee, TN - With a 4-1 singles record and semifinal appearance, junior Antti Saari paced his North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis team at this past weekend's ITA Regional Tourney in Sewanee, TN. Saari (pictured), the tourney's #2 seed, defeated three players from Emory University before falling to eventual champion Dillon Pottish. As a team, the Battling Bishops collected 15 singles victories. more >

Bishop men's tennis tabbed 16th in final ITA national rankings

Rocky Mount, NC - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released its final national rankings for the 2009 season with the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan coming in at #16. The ranking is the highest in the history of the men's tennis program and caps a record-breaking season that saw Wesleyan capture the USA South Regular Season and Tournament Championships, as well as an NCAA berth. more >
