| Program Overview
Over
the past 30 years, the softball program at North
Carolina Wesleyan College has been very competitive and
earned recognition regionally, nationally, and in the
USA South Athletic Conference. The Bishops won
Conference Championships in 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, and
1996, while NCWC recorded runner-up finishes in 1993 and
1997. During this time, Wesleyan has been
ranked regionally on several occasions, and many players have
earned All-Conference and All-Region recognition. Most recently in
2006, the program celebrated its first AFCA/Rawlings
All-American in the form of shortstop Ashlee Bass.
Wesleyan plays a very competitive schedule. In the
past, opponents have included Yale University, Campbell University,
Charleston Southern University, Elon College, and Longwood College.
The Battling Bishops have participated in tournaments in Virginia Beach (VA),
Myrtle Beach (SC), and Wilmington (NC).
Softball is a year-round program at Wesleyan,
beginning with a non-traditional fall season. Most fall contests are against
Division I and II schools. The traditional spring schedule includes two
tournaments, several non-conference doubleheaders, and our USA South Conference
slate. Our spring schedule is very competitive year-in and year-out.
As an NCAA Division III institution, NC Wesleyan
offers no athletic scholarships. NCWC does, however, offer very attractive
financial aid packages based on individual need and academic ability.
Bishop players are the heart and soul of our program.
Wesleyan’s success has been a direct result of the kind of young women on
our team. The coaches seek individuals who are self-disciplined, unselfish,
team-oriented, and represent our program in a first class manner. Everything
we do is designed to insure that each player reaches her full potential on
the field and in the classroom. Many Bishop players, in fact, have been
named to the College’s Dean’s List, as well as the USA South All-Academic
Team.
North Carolina Wesleyan College offers
student-athletes the opportunity to play college softball in an exciting,
successful program, while receiving an excellent education on a beautiful
campus. |
