Bishop volleyball season ends with 3-2 loss in USAC semifinals

Newport News, VA - Despite 21 kills from junior Brittany Insley (pictured), the 2nd-seeded Battling Bishop volleyball squad of North Carolina Wesleyan came up just short in its bid for a USA South Championship appearance, falling to 3rd-seeded Averett by a 3-2 score in Newport News, VA. Set scores were 17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-11. The loss marks the end of one of the best seasons in program history for the Bishops, who finish the season with a 26-8 overall record. more >

USA South announces All-Conference awards for fall sports

Fayetteville, NC - The USA South has announced its All-Conference awards for volleyball and soccer.  North Carolina Wesleyan had 17 athletes earn recognition, while three Bishops were named to their respective All-Sportsmanship teams.  Among the 17 honorees, there were six First Team picks, four Second Team picks, three Third Team picks, and four Honorable Mentions.  Leading the way were junior Danny Persson of men's soccer and freshman Mackenzie Tingle of volleyball. Persson was tabbed the league's Player of the Year, while Tingle (pictured) garnered Rookie of the Year accolades. more >

Wesleyan volleyball advances to USAC semifinals with 3-0 win

Rocky Mount, NC - Behind a game-high 15 kills and .714 hitting percentage by junior Brittany Insley (pictured), the Battling Bishop volleyball squad of North Carolina Wesleyan earned a 3-0 sweep of Ferrum College on Tuesday night in Everett Gymnasium.  With the win, the Bishops improve to 26-7 overall, which ties the single-season record for total victories set in 1980.  More importantly, Wesleyan advances to the semifinals of the 2008 USA South Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year. more >

Bishop volleyball splits at Ferrum, prepares for league tourney

Ferrum, VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan volleyball squad extended its winning streak to 15 games with a 3-0 sweep of host Ferrum College on Saturday, but the Cougars of Averett University pulled an upset in the day's second match with a 3-1 victory over the Bishops, who turned in a runner-up finish in the the USA South standings with a program-record 15-3 conference mark. The league split wraps up Wesleyan's regular season slate and give the Bishops a 25-7 record entering next week's conference tournament. more >

NCWC volleyball celebrates Senior Night with 3-0 sweep of MU

Rocky Mount, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan's volleyball squad celebrated its 2008 Senior Night with a 3-0 sweep of USA South rival Methodist University on Wednesday night in Everett Gymnasium. Set scores were 29-27, 25-16, and 25-22. Prior to the match, the Bishops honored senior Sydney Bens (pictured center with teammates Brittany Insley and Kelly George). Bens went on to tally nine kills and nine digs to lead NCWC to its 14th straight win and a perfect 11-0 month of October. more >
