Tobias breaks two records, paces
Bishops at PC Tri-Meet
Raleigh,
NC
- Sophomore Gretchen Tobias broke
two North Carolina Wesleyan cross
country records on Friday afternoon
as the Bishops competed in the Peace
Pacers 5K Tri-Meet held at WakeMed
Soccer Park in Raleigh.
Running in her first collegiate
meet, Tobias (pictured) turned in a
program-best time of 24:13 and a
record 5th-place finish among 18
runners. The Battling Bishops
finished third overall with 60
points. Meredith took first place
honors with 17 points, while Peace
finished second with 58 points.
In
addition to Tobias' performance,
freshman Lacey Bradley recorded a
solid time of 24:32 to finish 8th
overall. Bradley's time also
eclipsed the previous non-dual
record of 25:02 set during the 2006
season. Tobias and Bradley are
the first two Bishop runners to turn
in sub-25:00 times since the
program's inception.
Also competing for the Bishops were
Juliana Richardson (26:31/13th),
Katie Sadowski (31:14/16th), and
Meghan Herd (36:41/18th).
Meredith ran away
with top team honors as Joyce McLeod
gained her first collegiate meet win
with a time of 23:31. The Angels,
in fact, took the top four positions
with McLeod, Audrey Darby, Lauren
McDonald, and Katie Helms.
The
Battling Bishops return to action
on October 4th when they travel to
Greensboro to compete in the Hagan
Stone Classic. The meet is
slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
