NC Wesleyan names Beverly Biancur head women’s soccer coach

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Beverly Biancur as head women’s soccer coach for the Battling Bishops.  A product of Radford University, Biancur brings over 12 years of coaching experience to a promising Bishop program that returns 15 letterwinners this fall.

Biancur has developed a diverse and successful background during her coaching career, having worked with two colleges, three high schools, and over twenty club teams - six of which competed internationally.  She joins Wesleyan after a three-year stint as assistant coach at Roanoke College in Virginia, where she also served as head coach for the Roanoke Star U17/18 and U15 premier teams.  Additionally, Biancur has been a member of southwest Virginia’s Olympic Development Program coaching staff since 2002.

After concluding her collegiate playing career at Radford in 1984, Biancur received her degree in Sports Medicine and began focusing on a health and safety career while continuing her coaching aspirations.  Educationally, she has instructed courses for the American Red Cross, National Parks and Recreation, and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Biancur received her National Athletic Trainer Certification in 2004.  Her other certifications include an NSCAA National Diploma (1999), Advanced National Diploma (2000), and Premier Diploma (2003).

“It is my personal belief that recruiting, player development, and student-athlete academic success are the groundwork to building a successful intercollegiate women’s soccer program,” she stated.  “I am confident that I can bring athletic team excellence to an already academically successful institution.”

In addition to her coaching duties, Biancur will coordinate the strength and conditioning efforts of Wesleyan’s female athletes.  She is honored to be offered a chance to build on the strong tradition of Bishop soccer, as well as improve the quality of women’s athletics as a whole.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work with such a strong athletic program," she said, adding  "I am looking forward to working with all of the girls and coaching staffs.  Together, I feel we can achieve success for our Bishop women in all sports."

Biancur’s squad will open up the 2007 season on Saturday, September 1st when the Bishops host Sweet Briar College.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Wesleyan’s Scalf Field.
