Late goal by
Emory & Henry sends Wesleyan to 2-1 defeat
Emory, VA -
After fighting to a 1-1 tie through 85 minutes of play, the
Wasps of Emory & Henry College sent North Carolina Wesleyan
to a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat with a late goal in Monday
afternoon's non-conference women's soccer action. The score
came with just 4:38 remaining and leaves the Bishops with a
3-6-0 record on the season. With the win, EHC improves to
8-4-0 overall.
The Wasps took an
early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 26th minute by Loren
Favale. NCWC's Hanna-Leena Kokkonen tallied an unassisted
goal at the 43:50 mark to tie the score at 1-1 heading into
intermission. An evenly played match throughout, it was
Favale who struck again in the 86th minute to provide the
heroics for EHC.
The Wasps out-shot
the Bishops 15-11 in the match, but Wesleyan held the
advantage in shots-on-goal with seven on the day. EHC keeper
Hayley Poland made five saves to go along with one team save
to preserve the win.
NCWC goalies Tiina
Rastiola and Sarah Hess split time in goal and each gave up
one score, combining for four saves on the day.
Wesleyan returns to
action on Saturday at home when Greensboro College visits
Rocky Mount. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Scalf
