South announces All-Conference awards for fall

- The USA South Athletic
Conference has released its 2009
All-Conference awards for soccer and volleyball,
and North Carolina Wesleyan is
pleased to announce that the Battling Bishops
had 15 student-athletes garner recognition among
their respective teams. Leading the way were
First Team selections Brittany Insley and
Mackenzie Tingle of volleyball, as well as men's
soccer First Teamers Edgar Zaldivar and Michael
Muhseler, who was also tabbed the league's
Rookie of the Year. Senior Meredith Hester
(pictured) was named a Second Team honoree in
women's soccer to lead three NCWC
selections.

season ends in USA South Tourney

- The
Battling Bishop women's soccer team of NC Wesleyan saw its
2009 season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon in the first
round of the USA South Conference Tournament. The 7th-seeded
Bishops fell on the road at 2nd-seeded Christopher Newport
by a 4-1 score, ending the season with a 5-13-1 overall
record. The match marked the end of the careers of seniors
Sarah Hess, Meredith Hester, Joanne Youngblood, Tiara
Joyner, Aubrey Bonorden, and Sarah Matulich.

Bishop women drop regular
season finale to Captains, 5-1

- In Friday afternoon women's soccer action, the
Captains of Christopher Newport University forged a 4-0
halftime lead and went on to secure a 5-1 victory over
homestanding North Carolina Wesleyan in the regular season
finale for both teams. Junior Lauren Young tallied the
Bishops' lone goal in the 48th minute on an assist from
Meredith Hester, but it was too little too late as NCWC
dropped to
5-12-1 on the season entering next week's USA South Tourney. more >

Day with 3-0 win over MBC

- The NCWC women's soccer team celebrated its 2009
Senior Day in style on Sunday afternoon, earning a 3-0
victory over Mary Baldwin at Scalf Field. Prior to the
match, head coach Beverly Biancur honored seniors Sarah
Hess, Meredith Hester, Aubrey Bonorden, Tiara Joyner, Sarah
Matulich, and Joanne Younblood. The win capped an exciting
weekend for the Bishops, who also turned in a 1-1 draw
versus Shenandoah. more >
Hunt's pair of goals
secures weekend split for Bishop women
Raleigh,
NC -
Freshman Lydia Hunt tallied a pair of goals on Saturday
afternoon, leading her North Carolina Wesleyan women's
soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Peace College in Raleigh.
Hunt (pictured) netted the eventual gamewinner at the 38:37
mark and later notched her second score in 88th minute.
Unfortunately, the Bishops dropped a
5-1 contest at Meredith on Sunday.
