NCWC women's tennis goes 2-0 in weekend league action

Rocky Mount, NC - The Bishop women's tennis squad earned two USA South wins this weekend, picking up 7-2 wins over Averett and Ferrum on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Jenna Gollub, Kayla Miller, Kaite Bright (pictured), and Crystal Lashley all went undefeated in both singles and doubles action in the two matches.  Wesleyan is now 3-3 overall, but more importantly, evens its conference record at 2-2 on the season.  Under the direction of second-year head coach Jacy Whiddon, the Bishops are off to the best start in program history.

On Saturday at Averett, Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play as Gollub/Miller and Bright/Lashley were 8-2 and 8-1 winners at #1 and #3 doubles.  The same four were straight-set victors in singles action, with third-seeded Ashley Ball earning the Bishops' final point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over AU's Kim Carroll.

Sunday's match at home versus Ferrum began and ended in the same fashion, but this time it was NCWC's Brooke Lashley who earned Wesleyan's final point at #4 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over FC's Leah Austin.

Also of note, Gollub remained undefeated on the season at #1 singles as she improved to 6-0 with the two wins.

Wesleyan returns to action on Monday when the Bishops host Methodist University.  Match time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
