Wesleyan drops pair of matches in women's tennis action

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches this week, falling at home to Peace College on Wednesday by a 6-0 score before dropping an 8-1 decision to Hollins University on Sunday in Fayetteville. The Bishops' lone point came at #4 singles where sophomore Tija Riley (pictured) knocked off HU's Lydia Coyne 7-5, 6-4. With the two losses, the Battling Bishops are now 1-8 on the season, 0-3 in USA South play.

On Wednesday, Peace raced out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play and went on to sweep the rain-shortened match 6-0. All three doubles wins win were by 8-1 scores.

On Sunday, the Bishops were more competitive in doubles play as they dropped 8-4, 8-4, and 8-3 decisions at #1, #2, and #3, respectively. The 3-0 lead, however, was too much to overcome as Hollins took five of six in singles action.

Riley's win gives her a 3-1 mark in singles play on the season.

The Battling Bishops return to USA South action on Tuesday when they host Christopher Newport University. The match is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
