Diamond Bishops knock off Lynchburg on
the road, 7-4
Lynchburg,
VA -
Senior Justin Batts (pictured) went 3-for-5 with an RBI on
Friday afternoon to help lead his Battling Bishop baseball
team to a 7-4 win on the road at Lynchburg College. Down 3-0
in the eighth inning, Batts' lone RBI capped a seven-run
Wesleyan rally that proved to be the difference in the game.
Having won 12 of their last 14 contests, the Bishops are now
15-11 on the season, while Lynchburg stands at 14-8 overall.
NCWC starter Jonathan Shearon (2-4) went
seven complete, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine
hits while walking one and striking out three. He became the
pitcher of decision after the Bishops plated their seven
runs in the eighth.
Sophomore Richard Wall recorded one out
and gave up one run in LC's half of the frame before Andrew
Webb came on to toss a scoreless 1.2 innings for his second
save of the season.
In the Bishops' seven-run outburst,
Daniel Moore and Luke Williford each drove in two.
Senior Travis Beausoleil drew a bases loaded RBI-walk and
later scored on a wild pitch, while Wesleyan's final run
came on Batts' single. All seven runs came with two
outs and were unearned thanks to a crucial Lynchburg
fielding error that would have ended the inning with LC
still leading 3-0.
Senior Justin Tuck had two hits on the
day. His single in the eighth kicked off the game-changing
rally.
Wesleyan returns to USA South play on
Sunday when the Bishops play a doubleheader at Ferrum
College. Game one is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
