TITLE III

 
   

Tryout Information

Tryouts will be held in April for both returning students and incoming freshman.  The dates are tryouts are April 26 and 27, 2008.  Incoming Freshman must present proof of acceptance to Wesleyan and proof of deposit in order to tryout in April.  All incoming freshman are encouraged to attend an open gym clinic in February  in order to prepare for the two day tryout on April 26 and 27, 2008.  More information about Open Gym can be found under the Open Gym Link located to the right.  Freshman who can not attend the April  tryout or who have decided to attend Wesleyan later than April,  may tryout at the August tryout after students return to school.  However, spots on the squad could be limited.  It is recommended that all freshman attend the February clinic and those who can attend April tryouts do so.  Athletes trying out in April will have more time to learn football material, pay for cheer apparel, and attend camp over the summer. 

April tryouts will consist of two days with two practices a day.  Practices will be divided into the following:  stunt practice focusing on executing partner stunts and collegiate all girl stunts and tumbling, learning  tryout material, and perfecting material.  Each candidate will  be evaluated by a qualified panel of judges. 

Tryouts will consist of the following: 

Females:

  • Toe Touch

  • Optional Jump

  • Short  Dance 

  • One cheer

  • One chant

  • Tumbling pass

(Tumbling experience not required but a minimum of a round- off toe touch is advised.  All candidates should be prepared to  learn to tumble.)

  • Stunting: Flyers

(Minimum of a Toss Chair and Toss Hands/ All-girl Liberty or  other one legged stunts.

  • Female Bases

(Minimum Liberty or other one legged stunt)

 

Males:

  • Strength Test

(Administered by Stunt and Tumbling Coach, Antonio Raynor)

  • Minimum of Toss chair or Toss to hands

  • Cheer

  • Chant
