Bishop golf wraps up season at USA South Championship

Burlington, NC - Methodist University was declared the 2007 USA South Golf Tournament Champion on Sunday after heavy rains in the Burlington area shortened the 36-hole event held at the Stoney Creek Golf Course.  The Monarchs won the tournament by 10 strokes over Greensboro, which shot a 304 on Saturday afternoon.  North Carolina Wesleyan finished in seventh place with a team total of 369, thereby ending the 2006-07 golf season.  Daniel Chewning (pictured) paced the Bishops with a team-low round of 83 to finish at 11-over par and tied for 20th among the 34-player field.

The Monarchs placed three golfers on the All-Tournament team, including medalist Trey Howell. Howell wins medalist honors by one stroke over Shenandoah's Joe Orsino with a two-under-par 70.

Matt Bova and Jake Pleczkowski join Howell as MU representatives to the All-Tournament team, with Orsino and third-place Josh Cumming rounding out the team. Cumming, from Greensboro, shot an even-par 72.

NCWC's Steve Lee finished one stroke behind Chewning, while Chris Crews shot a 94.
