Mark Cole appointed North Carolina Wesleyan
golf coach

The North Carolina Wesleyan
Department of Athletics is
pleased to announce that Mark
Cole has been appointed head
men’s golf coach for the
Battling Bishops. A native of
Philadelphia, PA, Cole
(pictured) also
serves as an Admissions
Counselor for the College. He
takes over a Wesleyan program
that will return four letterwinners next season.
“With a new home course in our
backyard and a solid base of
returning players, I am very
excited about my appointment and
the future of the Wesleyan golf
program.”
A decorated athlete, Cole brings
a wealth of experience to the
Bishops. He is a lifetime
golfer that has competed in
numerous amateur golf
tournaments during his career.
Additionally, he earned
All-American honors in baseball
as a prep standout, as well as
All-County awards in football
and baseball. Academically,
Cole was named Delaware County
Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a
senior.
Cole then took his baseball
talents to Millersville
University where he received his
B.S. in Special Education with a
minor in Psychology in 1982. On
the field, he enjoyed a stellar
collegiate career that saw him
become a three-time
All-Conference performer. For
his efforts, he was signed by
the Toronto Blue Jays
organization and proceeded to
play two seasons professionally.
Cole’s coaching career began in
1991 when accepted a position
with his alma mater as assistant
baseball coach and athletic
recruiter. His two-year stint
with Millersville saw him earn
his master’s degree in education
in 1993, while also working in
the Office of Academic
Advisement. Cole went on to
join Franklin & Marshall College
in 1995 as head baseball coach.
While at Franklin & Marshall, he
also served in the Admissions
Office as an Admissions
Counselor.
His eight years of collegiate
coaching experience have left
Cole well-equipped to turn the
North Carolina Wesleyan golf
program into a USA South
contender.

the athletic gift they possess.”
Cole received his American Sport
Education Program (ASEP)
coaching certification in 1991.
In 1995, he became a certified
Specialist in Sports Condition (SSC)
by the International Sports
Science Association. With his
background in education and
athletics, Cole has worked with
over 1,000 youth and amateur
athletes through personal,
group, and team training
programs around the United
States.
He and his wife, Kathy, reside
in Cary, NC. They have three
children: Casey, Mary Kate, and
Mandy.
