Second half run sends Pride past Bishops, 78-62
Greensboro, NC - Greensboro College completed the regular season sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, downing the Bishop men by a 78-62 score in USA South hoops play. With the game knotted 33-33 at the break, the Pride put together a 17-2 run over the first 6:25 of the second half, and Wesleyan would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Lynn Bright and Adam Nicholson each netted 22 points for Greensboro, who improves to 17-6 on the season, 7-3 in conference action. The Bishops fall to 10-11 overall, 5-4 in the USA South.
The Bishops transition game proved to be the difference in the first half, scoring eight points via the fast break to GC’s four. Bright scored 11 points in the opening period to lead all scorers.
Bright continued his solid play in the second half, scoring seven points in the pivotal 17-2 second half opening run, which was capped by a Michael McDuffie three-pointer. Leading 55-45 with just over eight minutes remaining, the Pride offense took its biggest lead of the game with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes.
Trey Drake, who shot 7-of-16 from the floor, scored 19 points to lead the Bishops. Teammates Jarvis Cobb and Adam Coleman chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Lenny Hall added 10.
The Battling Bishops continue USA South play on Monday at Methodist College. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
