Arrington paces Bishops in 76-55 road
win over Guilford
Greensboro, NC
- Behind a
team-high 24 points by Jarmel Arrington, the Battling Bishop
hoopsters of North Carolina Wesleyan earned a 76-55 road
victory over Guilford College on Tuesday night in
Greensboro. The Bishops, fresh off receiving a #24 national
ranking, held a slim 25-23 lead at the break before shooting
nearly 50 percent in the second half to pull away for their
seventh victory of the season.
Both teams struggled from
the floor in the first half as Wesleyan shot just 33 percent
to Guilford's 30.
The second half, however,
saw the Bishops gain momentum early in the period. Up
29-27 with 18 minutes remaining, Wesleyan put together a
13-5 run to go up 42-32 just three minutes later.
The pivotal run was keyed
by the three-point shooting of Arrington, Trey Drake, and
Lamont Stokes. The Bishops continued to pad their lead down
the stretch and held their biggest advantage at 76-52 with
2:21 left in regulation.
Joining Arrington in double
figures were Drake and Stokes with 12 points apiece, as well
as Adam Coleman with 10. Freshman Alex Murray continued to
dominate the boards by securing a team-high nine rebounds.
For Guilford, Tyler Sanborn
recorded a double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
The Bishops scored 21
points off Quaker turnovers and once again held a
significant rebounding advantage at 50-38. Wesleyan's
rebounding, in fact, led to 13 second chance points on the
night.
The Bishops return home this
weekend to host their annual
Roger Taylor Invitational
featuring York (NY), St.
Vincent, and Lancaster Bible.
York and St. Vincent will face
off at 6:00 p.m. Friday,
followed by Wesleyan and
Lancaster Bible at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday's
consolation and championship
