Bishop men receive at-large bid to NCAA Tournament

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team is pleased to announce that the Bishops have received an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament.  NC Wesleyan is one of two representatives of the USA South Athletic Conference and will travel to Johns Hopkins University for first and second round action on Saturday and Sunday, November 10th and 11th.  The Bishops (16-1-0) will face Franklin & Marshall College (15-3-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

If North Carolina Wesleyan advances, the Bishops will play the winner of Johns Hopkins (17-3-0) and DeSales (10-3-2) on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.  Live stats will be provided for all three games via JHU Sports Information.  A link will be posted on the NC Wesleyan Athletics website on Friday afternoon.

Currently ranked 2nd in the latest NSCAA national poll, NC Wesleyan enjoyed an undefeated regular season before falling in the semifinals of the USA South Conference Tournament to Greensboro College by a 1-0 score on Friday.  The Pride (13-4-3) received the USA South's automatic bid after winning their third straight conference tournament championship.  Greensboro will face Roanoke College (12-7-1) for the chance to take on defending National Champion Messiah (18-2-0)

Going in to Saturday's game, NCWC has out-scored its opponents 70-12 on the season. This invitation to the NCAA Tournament is the sixth trip in program history for the Bishops and the third under the direction of head coach Jason Kilby.  In 2006, Wesleyan made a Sweet 16 appearance and finished with a 17-2-2 record.

The field for the 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament is comprised of 57 teams.  Nine sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday, November 9-10 or 10-11. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites November 16-17 or 17-18. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the semis and finals November 23-24. All games, except the finals, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions.  The Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida will be the site of this year’s finals.
