| Program Overview
The History:
The
Battling Bishops are a perennial powerhouse in Division III soccer and have
built a strong tradition here at NC Wesleyan. Since 1964, the team has
accumulated nearly 300 wins. Other accolades include four USA South/Dixie
Conference Championships, five NCAA
appearances, five All-Americans and countless All-South players.
The Facilities:
Wesleyan's soccer facilities at Scalf
Field are world class. We
have a beautiful Bermuda grass match pitch which measures 120 x 80, and is considered one
of the finest playing surfaces on the east coast. We also have several practice fields, as
well as extensive weight training facilities. The Carolina weather affords us the luxury
of being able to train outdoors year round. Currently a plan is under way to light both
the match facility and our training facilities, including the new construction
of another
practice field.
The Schedule:
The NC Wesleyan Men's Soccer Team plays the maximum 21 week schedule allowed by the NCAA. During our traditional
fall season, we consistently play top opponents from Divisions
I, II and III. Past and present opponents include Campbell, Duke, Liberty, East Carolina,
Emory, Greensboro, Methodist, VA Wesleyan, Mary Washington, Maryville, Hampden Sydney, and
Bethany. NC Wesleyan is a member of the prestigious USA South Athletic
Conference, and we host our own two-day tournament every September. We also play a very strong
Spring schedule against many local rivals such as Barton, Mt. Olive, and Duke University.
This
program is year round and very demanding both physically and mentally. It is built around
serious student-athletes who have the drive to train, compete and weight train year round.
We are constantly pursuing a National Championship! |
