NCWC tennis to face Mary Washington in NCAA Regional action

Rocky Mount, NC - Since securing the 2009 USA South Tournament Championship over two weeks ago in Burlington, the men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan College has been anxiously awaiting its fate for the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament. On Tuesday, head coach Dominic Modise got the announcement that his Battling Bishops will face off against the University of Mary Washington in Saturday's regional action hosted by Emory University.

Currently boasting a perfect 14-0 record and #23 national ranking, NCWC was tabbed the #3 seed in the regional, with Emory (16-3) as the #1 seed and Mary Washington (18-10) as the #2 seed.

Joining those three teams will be 4th-seeded Hampden-Sydney (13-5) and 5th-seeded Transylvania (17-3), who will face off on Friday for the chance to play host Emory on Saturday. Saturday's winners will then play on Sunday for the regional championship.

The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee selected 41 teams for participation in the Championships. The selection was based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds being played at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges, May 19-24.

As a regional host, Emory has designed a website for fans to follow this weekend's action that can be accessed via http://www.go.emory.edu/Fans/homepage.htm. Match times will also be posted through this link when available.
