Battling Bishop men's tennis falls in USA South semifinals

Burlington, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis team saw its 2008 season come to an end in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament for the second straight year. After downing Ferrum 9-0 to advance, the Bishops fell to Methodist by the same score on Saturday. Wesleyan finishes the season with a 9-8 record under first-year head coach Dominic Modise, marking the first winning season for the program since 1976. more >

Seven Bishops garner USA South tennis and golf awards

Fayetteville, NC - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for tennis and golf with a total of 65 student-athletes garnering recognition. In men's tennis, North Carolina Wesleyan had four players receive accolades, highlighted by First Team selection and Rookie of the Year Antti Saari (pictured). Freshman Jaime Galasso was a Second Team women's tennis selection, while Ryan Stugis earned Second Team honors in men's golf. more >

Wesleyan men down Ferrum, win thriller over Chowan

Rocky Mount, NC - The men’s team of North Carolina Wesleyan won its final two regular season matches this week, downing Ferrum 8-1 on Sunday before winning a 5-4 thriller over Chowan on Wednesday. Sunday's victory over the Panthers sealed the 3rd-seed in the USA South, while Wednesday's win moved the Bishops one step closer to their first winning season since the program was reinstated in 1999. Wesleyan now boasts an 8-7 overall record. more >

Methodist netters pick up 9-0 sweeps over Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, NC - The men’s and women’s tennis teams of Methodist University picked up 9-0 sweeps over North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at the NCWC Tennis Complex. With second place in the league on the line, the Monarch men remained tied for first place with the victory, while the regionally-ranked Methodist women dropped only one game on the day. more >

Saari earns third USA South Rookie of the Week award

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that freshman Antti Saari of men's tennis has earned his third USA South Rookie of the Week award. Saari (pictured) led his Bishops to two USA South victories last week, helping NCWC even its season record at 6-6 overall. more >

NCWC men's tennis goes 2-1 in league play, women drop three

Greensboro, NC - Senior Mike Harrison (pictured) and sophomore Matt Smith went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play this week, leading their Battling Bishop men's tennis team to two USA South victories. Wesleyan fell at Christopher Newport 9-0 on Friday, but the Bishops took 5-4 and 7-2 matches against Averett and Greensboro on Sunday, respectively. The women were not as fortunate, dropping all three contests on the road. more >
