Rocky
Mount, NC -
The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics
takes pride in former student-athletes who continue
to succeed in their athletic endeavors beyond those
experienced with the Battling Bishops. This
summer, two former softball players did just that as
members of the World Sport
International Stars Softball Club. Courtney
Tucker ('07) and Katie Dunavant ('08) recently took
their talent overseas to Paris, France and Apeldoorn,
Holland where the two competed in the 20th annual
Apeldoorn Series from July 17th to July 28th.
The
Stars Club managed a 6th-place finish among eight
teams, turning in a 2-3 record in Series play.
The team also toured Paris and went 4-0 in four
exhibition games versus the French Select Team.
Prior to Apeldoorn, Tucker (first
base) and Dunavant (catcher) both enjoyed productive
Battling Bishop careers for head coach John
Brackett.
As
a senior, Tucker
(pictured right) was a First
Team USA South All-Conference selection, a Second
Team All-Region selection, and named her squad's
Most Valuable Player while picking up the
prestigious NC Wesleyan Female Athlete of the Year
award. This was
Tucker's second year of competition with the Stars.
A four-year starter,
Dunavant (pictured left) also enjoyed several
accolades as a senior, including being named to the
USA South All-Sportsmanship Team and earning the
Bishops' Mo Bauer award this past spring.
Congratulations to both young
ladies on a job well done!
