WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT: Former
Battling Bishop Mamadou Danso acquired by D.C. United
Rocky Mount, NC
- North Carolina
Wesleyan men's soccer coach Jason Kilby is pleased to announce that former
Bishop Mamadou Danso has become the first NCWC player in history to join
the MLS (Major League Soccer). Danso, better known as "Futty" to his coaches and
teammates, was acquired by D.C. United and General Manager Dave Kasper on February
13th via the waiver ranking order.
A native of The Gambia, the talented
defender played for Kilby
as a freshman in 2005, helping the team to a 14-5 overall record and perfect 6-0
mark in USA South play.
Danso
transferred to Southern Polytechnic University in 2007,
where he was named Newcomer of the Year and a First Team
All-Conference performer. This past season saw Futty move
from his natural center back position to the forward slot.
He proceeded to lead the league in scoring with 19 goals and
six assists, despite playing out of position.
After being named the 2008 Southern
States Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Offensive
Player of Year, and a First Team All-Conference pick, Danso
was most recently honored as an All-America Honorable
Mention selection by the NAIA.
Said Kasper of Danso, "We are pleased to
have obtained Mamadou from the MLS waiver process. He is a
strong central defender with a big, physical presence and we
look forward to giving him an opportunity to earn a spot
with D.C. United."
