Battling Bishop
cheer squad receives first bid to NCA Nationals

Mount, NC
- The North Carolina
Wesleyan Department of Athletics and head cheer coach Samantha McAuliffe are
pleased to announce that the Battling Bishop cheerleading squad has earned its
first bid to NCA College Nationals. McAuliffe's Bishops recently finished a three day camp with
the NCA (National Cheerleaders Association) that was held
August 14-16. In order to receive a bid,
teams had to attain certain goals during camp, such as
completing and hitting specific stunts and performing well
during their evaluations.
During camp, the Bishops learned new cheers, chants, dances and stunts.
Each day, Wesleyan cheerleaders were evaluated on the material they learned. The ladies earned
two Excellent ribbons for their Chant and College Rally performances and four
Superior ribbons. These were awarded for their execution of skills when
performing their Cheer and College Rally, as well as their Expression/Projection and the
Overall Effect of their College Rally performance.
Additionally, McAuliffe was
excited to report that the team earned the Stunt Smart Award
for displaying excellent skills in spotting and stunt
technique. With safety being such as important issue,
this was a noteworthy accomplishment for NCWC.
Finally, the Bishops earned
the Motion Award for displaying superlative motions during
their NCA evaluations, as well as the Team Award for
exemplifying the qualities on which NCA was built:
Leadership, Values, and teamwork.
McAuliffe could not be more
pleased about her squad's performance and its first bid to
Nationals.
"I am so excited for our
girls," said McAuliffe. "They have worked very hard to
achieve this bid, and it says so much about where our
program is headed."
NCA Nationals will be held
April 8-12, 2009 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Wesleyan
cheerleaders will be fundraising throughout the season to
fund the trip.

2008-09 squad will be held
in September to fill
