WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT: Battling Bishop women's soccer gears up for annual KIX program

Rocky Mount, NC - Beverly Biancur was named head coach of the North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer program in the summer of 2007. When she relocated from her Virginia home to the Rocky Mount community, she brought two loves with her in regards to soccer: a love for the game and a love for teaching it.

One of the first projects Biancur implemented with her team last season was her KIX program... a program designed to provide soccer instruction and lectures at area elementary schools within the Nash-Rocky Mount School System.  Biancur and her players traveled to several schools over the course of the 2007-2008 school year and were able to conduct on-site clinics that received much praise from school administrators and teachers.

With all of the positive feedback, the Battling Bishops have announced plans to continue their community outreach by implementing a second season of KIX in 2008-2009.

"The women's soccer program of North Carolina Wesleyan is proud to offer its services by providing a day of soccer instruction to the elementary schools of the surrounding area," said Biancur.  "This is an effort to give back to the community and hopefully foster several young soccer fans along the way!"

The Bishops have already scheduled six days of instruction at three different schools, beginning this week at Pope Elementary on Monday and Tuesday.  Wesleyan will also conduct clinics at Cedar Grove and Coopers Elementary this fall.

"Our athletes and the kids they work with all have a blast with this," added Biancur.  "We enjoy this chance to promote the game of soccer."

Biancur's Bishops are currently 2-3 on the season.  They will kick off USA South play on Wednesday at Meredith College. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. For more information on the KIX program or to find out how to schedule a clinic with the Bishops, please contact Coach Biancur at bbiancur@ncwc.edu or 252.985.5215.
