Softball's Bass
named Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region

The North Carolina Wesleyan softball program and head
coach John Brackett are pleased to announce that
shortstop Ashlee Bass has been named a Louisville
Slugger All-Region performer by the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association. A Second Team selection, this is
the third All-Region award for the talented senior. Bass
(pictured) was a Second Team pick in 2006 and First Team
pick in 2005 when she went on to garner All-American

Wesleyan softball
season ends in USA South Tournament

The Bishop softball team of NCWC saw its 2008 season
come to an end over the weekend at the USA South
Tournament. Wesleyan, the 7th seed, opened up play with
a 13-1 win over Mary Baldwin on Friday before dropping a
5-3 decision to eventual champion CNU later in the day.
The Bishops then fell to Ferrum College by a 4-2 score
in extra innings in Saturday's first elimination game,
ending the season with an 18-19 overall record and
closing out the careers of senior Denise Pope, Ashlee
Bass, Libby Fulford, and Katie Dunavant (all pictured).

South announces league baseball and softball awards

NC - The USA South
Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards
for baseball and softball with a total of 90
student-athletes garnering recognition. In baseball, regular
season runner-up North Carolina Wesleyan had eight players
receive accolades, highlighted by First Team selections Ben
Moore, Chris Pecora, and Matt Smith. On the women's side,
five Bishops were honored, including seniors Ashlee Bass and
Libby Fulford as First Team picks.

Marlins sweep Bishops
in regular season softball finale
Virginia Beach, VA -
The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College swept
non-conference rival North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday
afternoon, picking up 8-0 and 7-6 wins over the Battling
Bishops. VWC held the Bishops to just two hits in game
one, while the Marlins took the nightcap in 11 innings.
The two losses marked the end of the regular season for
NCWC, leaving the Bishops with a 17-17 overall record
entering this weekend's USA South Conference Tournament.

softball and Chowan split Senior Day twinbill

Carolina Wesleyan’s softball Bishops celebrated
their 2008 Senior Day on Sunday afternoon,
honoring Denise Pope, Ashlee Bass, Libby
Fulford, and Katie Dunavant prior to the start
of their doubleheader with Chowan University.
Wesleyan then proceeded to split with the
Division II Hawks by taking the opener 3-2 and
falling in the nightcap 5-4. The Bishops move to
17-15 on the season.

Fulford tosses perfect
game, Bishops sweep Mary Baldwin

Senior Libby Fulford became the first pitcher in North
Carolina Wesleyan history to toss a perfect game on
Saturday afternoon, shutting out Mary Baldwin in game
one of the Bishops' USA South doubleheader by an 18-0
score. Fulford (pictured) retired all 15 batters she
faced, striking out 11 in the process. Freshman Kacie
Brandes picked up the win in game two as Wesleyan
cruised to a 7-2 victory. The sweep ups the Bishops'
overall record to 16-14. more >
