REMAINED UNDEFEATED WITH 8-4 VICTORY OVER MONARCHS
BURLINGTON, N.C.
- The Christopher Newport
Captains stayed
in the winner’s bracket of the
2008 USA South
Tournament by downing
Methodist, 8-4.
Methodist
took the early lead, with Lesley
Hewitt scoring on a wild pitch in the
bottom of
the second inning, but that would be all of the
offense they
could muster.
Christopher Newport came back with three
runs in the top of the third
inning. The Captains
had RBI-singles from Katie Moyers, Mary
Kennedy,
and Taylor Morgan.
The
Captains added four runs in the fifth
inning. Megan Morris got things
started with a
triple. Moyers knocked her in with an RBI-
single. Margit Severin got on base with a
double and Harper moved on base with a
single. Thompson knocked them both in with a double.
In the
sixth inning, the Captains added another run with an RBI-single by
Morris after
Ashley Mani reached on a triple.
Methodist
didn’t give up, pushing 3 across in the bottom of the 7th
with a double by
Megan Hutson.
Christopher Newport will face the winner of Averett and Greensboro while
Methodist will
play Peace.
