#4 PRIDE SURVIVE AND ADVANCE
BY DOWNING #6 FERRUM
BURLINGTON, N.C.
- The 4th-seeded
Greensboro Pride
staved off elimination by
defeating the 6th-seeded Ferrum Panthers by
a
5-2 score.
Greensboro got on the board in the first inning
with a single from
Meagan Knight to drive in
Jenee Johnson. The Pride added two more to
their cause when back-to-back singles put
runners on first and second.
Both runners
scored on a Nina Chariuttini double.
The Pride
got their bats going again in the third
with another two runs driven.
Knight got on
after hitting into a fielders choice, while an
Olivia
Williams double put runners on second
and third. After a pitching change
for the
Panthers, Knight scored on an illegal pitch and
Britney Smith
singled to drive in Williams for a
5-0 Pride lead.
The
Panthers clawed their way back into it in the bottom of the third with a
double from
Jalisa Poe to put runners on second and third. Lauren Rizzo
drove in both runs and
advanced to second on the throw. The Panthers
looked to get more but would end the
inning down 2-5.
Both
teams would have chances to score but neither team’s defense would allow
any
more offense in the game. Jordan Davenport got the win for the Pride
while Kryestyn
Matherly took the loss.
The Pride
(23-16-2) advances to the next round and take on the Methodist Monarchs.
