Greensboro OUSTS MONARCHS WITH 5-3 VICTORY

  BURLINGTON, N.C. - The 4th-seeded Pride of
 Greensboro College ousted 2nd-seeded
Methodist University in Saturday's final game
 by a 5-3 score. Greensboro managed a 3-2
lead before a brief rain delay, and the Pride
went on to out-score the Monarchs 2-1 over the
 final two innings.

Jenee Johnson and Jessica Clack led off the
 game with singles.
A fly ball moved the
runners to second and third, and Olivia
McPherson followed with an RBI-single up the
middle to plate the first run of the contest.
Clack later scored on an illegal pitch for a 2-0
 Pride advantage.

The Monarchs answered with two runs of their
own in their half of the frame. Brandi
Chandler
walked and stole second, and a walk and
single to left proceeded to load the bases.
Crystal Metzger then forced home MU's first run by drawing the second bases-on-balls
of the inning. Pinch runner Brittany Melton tied the game when she crossed on a Pride
 error, unearned.

In the third, Greensboro’s Clack collected her second hit of the game and came around
to score on a Kristen Coakley RBI-single that put the Pride on top for good.

After the rain delay, GC added two insurance runs in the sixth as Kendra Leghart and
Jenee Johnson each recorded an RBI. Leghart's proved to be the game-winner as the
Monarchs managed to scratch a run in their half of the frame for the 5-3 final.

Greensboro’s Erica Brown (10-7) earned the win after going 3 1/3 innings and allowing
 one run on four hits
. Lesley Hewitt (15-6) took the loss for Methodist as she gave up five
 runs on nine hits.

Johnson, Clack, and Ryeleigh Loftin each had two hits for the Pride, while Metzger and
Sara Poling had two hits apiece for the Monarchs.

The Pride (24-16-2) ssare back in action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. versus Averett
University for a chance to face 2nd-seeded Christopher Newport in the championship.
Methodist (34-10) will now wait to see if the Monarchs draw an at-large NCAA nod.
