#3 METHODIST RALLIES TO DEFEAT #6 FERRUM, 6-3

  BURLINGTON, N.C. - Third-seeded Methodist
University rallied from a two-run deficit Friday
morning to down No. 6 Ferrum 6-3 in the first
round of the USA South Conference softball
 Tournament at Springwood Park.

The victory sends the No. 21 in the nation
Monarchs (33-8) into the winner's bracket
semi-finals against the winner of the No. 2
CNU vs No. 7 NC Wesleyan game.

Ferrum (17-22) plays at 3:00 today in an
elimination game against No. 8 Meredith.

MU scored what proved to the game-winning
run as part of a four-run sixth.  After taking a 3-2
lead on Tabitha Stephenson's RBI single,
Megan Hutson gave the Monarchs a four-run
lead with a three-run home run over the
 leftfield fence.

The Panthers loaded the bases in the seventh, Methodist turned to closer Hannah
Stutts to finish out the contest. Stutts got a fielder's choice and a groundout to short to
secure the victory and her third save of the spring.

Stutts saved it for Emily Beck (7-4), who allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and
one walk in 6.1 innings. She struck out three.

Freshman Katie Duff (7-9) went the distance for FC. She was charged with six runs
(three earned) on seven hits and two walks.
