BATTLING BISHOPS OPEN TOURNEY WITH 13-1 WIN OVER #10 MBC
BURLINGTON, N.C.
- The 7th-seeded Bishops
of North Carolina Wesleyan opened up USA
South Tournament play with a convincing 13-1
win over 10th-seeded Mary Baldwin. The
Bishops plated runs in every inning, while their
pitching staff did the rest on the mound in
combining for a one-hit shutout.
Freshman
Jessica Poindexter led Wesleyan's
offense with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate,
including a bases loaded three-run triple that
capped a five-run fifth.
Baldwin
plated its lone run in the fourth when
Kristina Jones walked and scored. Garika
Williams recorded the Squirrels lone hit.
Libby
Fulford (12-12) earned the win, while
Amber Ralston (2-28) took the loss.
Wesleyan (18-17) will
now take on 2nd-seeded
Christopher Newport at 3:00 p.m., while the Squirrels (3-35) will face the
loser of #4
Greensboro and #5 Peace.
