BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Averett hurler Sandra Dennison
scattered six hits and allowed just one run over seven
innings in leading her Cougar softball squad to a 7-1
victory over Methodist University on Saturday morning at
Springwood Park. With the victory, the Cougars (19-16)
survive to play the 2:00 game versus #2 Shenandoah
or #3 Greensboro, while Methodist (17-26) is eliminated
from tournament play.
The
Cougars took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of scores
in the first when Hayley Brooks recorded an RBI-double
and later scored on a Heather Carnes RBI-groundout.
Methodist
answered with a run in the second on an Alex Bass RBI-single, but
Averett
got it back in the third to take a 3-1 advantage into the late innings.
The Cougars went
on scratch four runs over their final two at-bats for the 7-1 final.
Dennison
moves to 13-10 on the season, while Bass finishes the season with a
6-8
mark. Brooks finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.
