Bishop softball
makes run in USAC Tourney, falls in semifinals

- The 9th-seeded NC Wesleyan
softball team made an impressive run in the 2009 USA
South Conference Tournament over the weekend, winning
four straight contests and coming within one game of a
championship appearance. Unfortunately, the Bishops'
season came to an end with a 6-0 loss to 2nd-seeded
Shenandoah University in Sunday's semifinal match-up.
Sophomore Alexis Gallop led the Bishops with a .429
batting average and four RBI en route to All-Tournament
honors.

golf.
North Carolina
Wesleyan had 15
athletes earn
recognition,
while five
Bishops were
named to their
respective
All-Sportsmanship
teams.
Among the 15
honorees, there
were six First
Team picks, five
Second Team
picks, and four
Honorable
Mentions.
Leading the way
were senior Ben
Moore of
baseball and
sophomore Antti
Saari of men's
tennis, who each
garnered Player
of the Year
accolades.

Battling Bishops sweep
Mary Baldwin, drop two to Methodist
Staunton,
VA

Senior Whitney Moshier (pictured)
went 4-for-7 with six runs scored
and three RBI to help lead her Battling Bishop softball
squad to a two-game sweep of Mary Baldwin College on
Thursday afternoon. After taking game one in six innings
by a 10-1 score, the Bishops needed four runs in the top
of the seventh of game two to force extra innings, where
they stole the 14-9 victory. The sweep came on the heels
of two losses to Methodist University on Wednesday
afternoon in Rocky Mount. Wesleyan is now
9-23 on the season and finishes USA South play at 4-14.

Prior to the start of
Wednesday afternoon's USA South softball doubleheader versus
Methodist University, the Bishops and head coach John
Brackett would like to take time to recognize the two senior
captains of this year’s squad: Whitney Moshier and Payton
Gordon (both pictured).
Brackett would like
to thank each of these young ladies for their
contributions to the program.
