Insley leads Battling Bishop
volleyball to two league victories
Rocky
Mount, NC
- Junior Brittany Insley tallied a
team-high 27 kills and an impressive
.535 hitting percentage over two
matches on Saturday, leading her
North Carolina Wesleyan volleyball
squad to two USA South victories
over Mary Baldwin and Greensboro
College, respectively. Insley
(pictured) managed 11 kills in a 3-0
sweep of MBC and went on to notch 16
more in a 3-1 victory over the host
Pride. With the victories, Wesleyan
improves to 23-6 overall, 13-2 in
league play.
Against Mary Baldwin (4-27, 3-12
USAC), set scores were 25-15, 25-11,
and 25-16. Insley was the lone
player to tally double-figures in
kills as nine different players
combined for a .386 hitting
percentage for NCWC. Freshman setter
Mackenzie Tingle dished out 30
assists, while sophomore libero
Kelly George anchored the defensive
effort with seven digs.
Versus Greensboro (14-19, 10-5 USAC),
set scores were 25-15, 12-25, 25-19,
and 25-16. Despite a negative
hitting percentage in the second
set, Wesleyan still managed to turn
in a remarkable .370 hitting
percentage in the match as a team.
In
addition to Insley's team-high 16
kills, freshman Leslie Hassell had
11. Tingle finished with 29 assists
and George 11 digs for the Bishops,
who have now won 13 straight
contests and have also set a new
program record for conference
victories in a season with 13.
Wesleyan returns
to action on Wednesday night at home
versus USAC rival Methodist
University. Game time is slated for
7:00 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium, and
the Bishops will be honoring senior
Sydney Bens prior to the match.
