Two Bishops garner ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that two fall athletes have been named to ESPN/CoSIDA's Academic All-District teams. Sophomores Dewey Gatling and Mackenzie Tingle of football and volleyball were each named to their respective District Three squads. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with a minimum 3.30 grade point average and be a significant contributor to his/her team. more >

NCWC volleyball falls to CNU in USAC Tourney Championship

Newport News, VA - By virtue of a 3-2 win
in Friday's semifinal match versus Averett University, the Battling Bishop volleyball team
of North Carolina Wesleyan made its first-ever appearance in the USA South Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon against Christopher Newport. Unfortunately, the host Captains came away with a 3-0 sweep, wrapping up Wesleyan's season as well as the stellar career of senior Brittany Insley (pictured). Insley helped the Battling Bishops to a 22-13 overall record in 2009, marking their third-straight 20-win season. more >

USA South announces All-Conference awards for fall sports

Fayetteville, NC - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2009 All-Conference awards for soccer and volleyball, and NC Wesleyan is pleased to announce that the Battling Bishops had 15 student-athletes garner recognition among their respective teams.  Leading the way were First Team selections Brittany Insley and Mackenzie Tingle of volleyball, as well as men's soccer First Teamers Edgar Zaldivar and Michael Muhseler, who was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year. more > 

Insley and Tingle help Battling Bishops survive Greensboro, 3-2

Rocky Mount, NC - In Tuesday night's USA South Tournament quarterfinal action, the 2nd-seeded Battling Bishop volleyball team survived a determined 7th-seeded Greensboro squad by a
3-2 score in Everett Gymnasium. Set scores were 20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-12.  NCWC's blocking proved to be the difference in the match as the Bishops tallied 13 team blocks on the night (4 solo, 18 assists).  Senior Brittany Insley led the way with nine blocks in the match, and it was Insley and Mackenzie Tingle (both pictured) who ended the fifth set and match with yet another rejection. more >
