Bishop runners break three records,
finish 3rd at Salem
Greensboro,
NC
- The North Carolina Wesleyan cross country
squad opened up its season on
Saturday morning, finishing third
among seven teams competing in the
2008 Salem College Invitational.
Freshman Lacey Bradley led the
Bishops by turning in the best
non-dual individual finish in
program history with a 5th-place
showing among the field of 31
runners. Bradley's time of 25:05 was
just three seconds off the program
record, while the team's 66 points
and third place finish both set new
program marks.
In addition to
Bradley's performance, freshman
Courtney Jamieson (second from left)
also earned a medal with a time of
26:32, good enough for 15th place.
Also competing for the Bishops were
Rachel Hernandez (27:06/17th),
Juliana Richardson (28:47/23rd), and
Katie Sadowski (28:52/24th).
Wesleyan's 66 points as a team
placed the Bishops in front of
Ferrum's 83 points, as well as Peace, Averett,
and Bluefield which all failed to
produce team scores.
Host Salem took top honors with 31
team points, followed by Meredith in
second place with 45. The
Spirits' Rachel Fichthorn turned in
the best individual time at 20:57.
The
Battling Bishops return to action
next Friday at the Peace Pacers 5K
in Raleigh. The race is slated for a
5:00 p.m. start.
