Lady Bishop lacrosse falls to St. Andrews at home, 14-8

Rocky Mount, NC - Behind a game-high six goals and two assists from Katie Wright, St. Andrews Presbyterian College was able to secure a 14-8 win over North Carolina Wesleyan in Friday's lacrosse action at Scalf Field.  Wright scored four goals in the first half to help the Knight's build an 8-3 lead at intermission.  The Bishops would get no closer than three goals in the final period and now stand at 2-9 on the season.  With the win, St. Andrews improves to 3-6 overall.

Haley Griffiths scored the Bishops' first two goals, as St. Andrews jumped out to a 5-2 lead.  NCWC's Sarah Smith then notched her first goal of the contest to make the score 5-3, but the Knights closed the half with three unanswered goals to go up five at the break.

The second half was played very closely with SAPC out-scoring Wesleyan 6-5.  NCWC's Allie Stylc opened the scoring in the second half followed by goal by Buffy Casto, pulling the Lady Bishops to within three at 8-5.

The Knights' Corey Whitbeck, however, scored SAPC's ninth goal at the 22:48 mark, which proved to be the game winner.  Wright and Whitbeck then sandwiched goals around a Casto score to give St. Andrews an 11-6 lead with 15:16 remaining.

Casto and Smith connected on back-to-back goals to again pull the Bishops to within three, but they would get no closer as the Knights finished the game on a 3-0 run for the 14-8 final.

For the game, Wesleyan out-shot St. Andrews 28-21.  SAPC goalie Eryn McCaffrey had a stellar game, recording 14 saves and earning the win.

In addition to Wright's six goals, Kelsey Binggeli added four scores and an assist.  Casto led the Bishops with three goals, while Griffiths and Smith each had two.  Griffiths added the lone NCWC assist.

Wesleyan returns to action on the road at Guilford College on Wednesday.  Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Greensboro.
