Shorewomen defeat
Wesleyan in lacrosse action, 17-10

- In Saturday afternoon lacrosse action, the
Shorewomen of Washington College defeated North
Carolina Wesleyan by a 17-10 score at Scalf Field.
Washington built an 11-5 lead at intermission and
held on in the final period to secure their first
win of the season. The Lady Bishops are now
0-2 overall.
The game looked to
be a high-scoring affair from the start with the two
squads combining for eight goals in the first five
minutes. The Shorewomen held the early 5-3
advantage and scored six unanswered goals to go up
11-3 with 2:53 remaining in the first period.
Lady Bishops Allie Stylc and Buffy Casto responded
with a goal apiece in the final 25 seconds to cut
the WC lead to six at the break.
Stylc struck again
just 39 seconds into the second half to pull
Wesleyan to within five at 11-6. The BIshops,
however, would get no closer as the two squad traded
scores for the remainder of the game.
Casto led all
scorers with seven goals and an assist, while Stylc
finished with three goals and three assists.
For Washington,
Sally Mancini scored a team-high six goals.
Brittany Lambert chipped in with three assists on
the day.
The Shorewomen
out-shot the Bishops 36-20, while both teams notched
two free position goals each.
The Lady Bishops
will be back in action on Sunday when they host Bridgewater College at
1:00 p.m.
