Lady Bishop lacrosse falls at Wesley, 13-9

Lauren Owens scored five goals and added one
assist as Wesley College defeated
non-conference opponent North Carolina
Wesleyan College by a final score of 13-9 in
Sunday afternoon women's lacrosse action at
Wolverine Stadium. The victory is the first
of 2006 for the Wolverines as they even
their record at 1-1 on the season. With the
loss, the Lady Bishops drop to 1-5 overall.
North
Carolina Wesleyan jumped out to an early 1-0
lead, but Wesley score the final five goals
of the first half to take a 5-1 lead at
intermission. The second half saw 16 goals
scored by the two teams, but the Battling
Bishops would get no closer than three.
With Wesley
up 9-4, NCWC scored two goals in a 1:28 time
span to pull within 9-6 with 12:27 to go in
the game. The Wolverines would then answer
back with two goals by Owens. The teams
would trade goals the rest of the way with
freshman Buffy Casto finishing the scoring
with 1:35 remaining for the final margin.
Casto
finished with seven goals for the Bishops,
which led all scorers. Jade Martin and
Brittany Block posted two goals apiece for
the Wolverines. Stacey Johnson added one
goal and three assists, while Kyley McDevitt
had one goal and two assists to aid the
Wesley effort.
The Lady
Bishops will return to action next Saturday
when they host the College of Notre Dame
(MD). Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. at
Scalf Field.
