Gators down Lady Bishops in lacrosse action, 17-5

Rocky Mount, NC - The Lady Bishop lacrosse squad returned to action on Saturday, falling at home to the College of Notre Dame (MD) by a 17-5 score. CND's Sarah Breidenbrough led all scorers with six goals, while Tina Money chipped in with five. Sarah Smith and Allie Stylc each had two goals for the Bishops, who are now 1-6 overall.

The two squads fought to a 3-3 tie with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half, but the Gators closed the period on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead into the break. Wesleyan would get no closer than four the rest of the way, as Notre Dame went on to out-score the Bishops 10-2 in the second half.

The Gators converted seven goals on free position shots and out-shot NCWC 37-18 in the game. Wesleyan goalie Cary Trump collected 12 saves, while Gator goalie Monique Boone had 11.

Lady Bishop Alexa Ashworth scored her first goal of the season in the contest.

NC Wesleyan returns to USA South conference action on Tuesday at Greensboro College. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
